Lamb is on the menu, with the hint of spring in the air, thoughts turn to “succulent melt in the mouth” lamb and cheeky crisp Sparkling Rose. The perfect segue………we would like to introduce our sparkling “Blue Devil”
Our Sparkling Rose has been 18months in the making. We have named our wine after a native which grows on our farm, Blue Devil, the botanical name Eryngium ovinum. The prickly devil appears in summer with a striking mauve blue pearlescent flowerhead and disappears as dramatically as it arrived in autumn. We are hoping for the same dramatic entrance and consumption of our Sparkling Rose!
2017 Lambing has been a tough season, no rain, then rain, and a very, very crisp spring with not a lot of pasture growth. Our girls even in this less than generous season have thrown large lambs, a testament to the thriftiness of Ryelands!
